PS3 Backwards Compatibility Makes PS2 Games Look Terrible
game: Playstation 3
editorial | 12/14/06 | Aaron Stanton
The PS3 has not had an easy launch. While the mainstream media has been treating the system very MTV-like (with unquestioning adoration), Sony\'s street credit amongst the hardcore has been taking almost daily blows. From problems with HDTV support to shortages at launch, Sony just hasn\'t been getting the positive consumer response they probably wanted. Now, Joystiq.com is reporting on a YouTube video that highlights just how bad PS2 games look when run on the PS3\'s backwards compatibility. The side-by-side comparison video between a PS2 game running on the PS3 vs. an actual PS2 is really fairly stunning. The PS2 beats the PS3 hands down, and does so clearly enough that you don\'t have to be picky to notice the difference. Check out the article for more information.

That Retro Review: Fun With Eco-Terrorism: Robowarrior
game: Robowarrior
feature | 10/07/06 | James Gardiner
RoboWarrior: a game with an unrecognizable title, perhaps, but a title of some great importance. For instance, RoboWarrior was partly responsible for the fall of the former Soviet Union; when Jaleco sent copies of it to civilians, there commenced massive riots and burnings of giant NES effigies in the streets! Don\'t bother looking that little tidbit of knowledge up in a history book, it\'s all part of a Soviet cover-up to keep it very hush hush. Today, the story of a man named ZED will be told!

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology Review: All the Street Fighting You Could Ever Want
game: Street Fighter Alpha Anthology
review | 08/14/06 | Amanda Bateman
Old school fighting game fans, get your thumbs ready. The Street Fighter Alpha series has been bundled into one convenient package and adapted for the PS2. But is that enough for the classic 2D side-scrolling fighter to grab and hold your interest? The anthology offers a great classic arcade feel, but the gameplay of Street Fighter has been copied enough times over the years that the fighting is, sadly, nothing special anymore. If you\'re a fan of the past, this is a great collection, as collections go, but it stands as a reminder of how far fighting games have come over the years.

Pac-Man Goes to XBLA

news | 08/09/06 | Chris Martin
Are you celebrating 25 years of being yellow? You should be. Pac-Man is 25 years old and, to celebrate, he\'s going on Xbox Live Arcade. He\'s here with some new graphics, 250 levels, and at less than $5.00 USD, the price seems right. Now the only question is, will it be as successful as Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting?

Saint's Row Preview
game: Saint's Row
preview | 05/19/06 | RJ Brooks
Saint\'s Row comes off as another GTA clone just trying to cash in on the current fads: Gangstas + Free Roaming Play = $$$. But for some reason, it has taken the interest of Mr. RJ Brooks here on the GF! Staff. What is it? The crazy customizable gangster looks? The street cred imported through story advisors with gang affiliations? Nah, it\'s just the sucker-punching civvies as you car-jack them. That\'s gotta be it. Get the full story about Saint\'s Row in Rob\'s preview.

Street Supremacy Review
game: Street Supremacy
review | 03/12/06 | Matt James
With at least three other solid racing games available for the PSP, a racing title has to do something above and beyond good just to stand out on the system. Either that or something really bad. Street Supremacy is now on store shelves and begging for you to give it a go. But is that wise? Here\'s a warning: Speed walking might seem fast paced and high intensity after a few hours strolling down the streets of Supremacy. If you\'re looking for something to make the mundane elements of your life seem interesting and exciting, Street Supremacy might be for you. Read on for details.

Xbox 360 Hits the Open, Hangs Out at Wal-Mart
game: Xbox 360
news | 10/20/05 | Aaron Stanton
Don\'t be surprised if there\'s a line in the electronics section the next time you visit your local Wal-Mart. The retail chain has been scoring some street points by being the first retail company to demo Microsoft\'s Xbox 360, hands-on and playable by the customer. Apparently, playable Xbox 360 demo units have been springing up across the United States. A quick call to our local Wal-Mart confirmed that an Xbox 360 was already sitting, pristine and nice, behind a glass display and a line of people all hurting their necks looking up at the screen. \"We set ours up yesterday,\" was the comment we got from the clerk when we called, \"and it\'s beautiful.\"

Burnout: Revenge
game: Burnout: Revenge
review | 09/29/05 | Tristan Mayshark
Electronic Arts\' latest update to the Burnout series, Burnout: Revenge puts the focus squarely on action and destruction. With many more routes open on each track, and some significant shifting of gameplay elements, this is a sequel that will either be very well-liked, or, if you\'re like our man Tristan, will have you returning to Burnout 3 to try to regain that je ne sais quoi of creating streets full of vehicular carnage.

Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance
game: Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance
review | 09/13/05 | Laurie Taylor
Combining a little bit GTA with a little bit Def Jam Vendetta, and a whole frothy can of whoop@$$, Capcom\'s Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance proves that even a somewhat flawed game can pack in a lot of fun. That is, if you can make it through the load screens. Get your b\'mup on with Laurie\'s review.

In BOS, you live and die by your victories, and this war isn\'t waged for peace or freedom; this war is waged for ratings and money. UK gamers will be enjoying Bet On Soldier for PC in a few short weeks, and hopefully we\'ll get to check it out so we can know whether or not to riot in the streets until it comes to the US.

Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition
game: Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition
review | 08/27/05 | Gary Wong
The popular Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition makes its way to the PSP. Sony\'s little handheld has been starved for some high octane games, so DUB Edition has a lot riding on it. Does its engine stall at the starting line or does it finish at the top? Check Gary\'s review for the details.

World Championship Poker
game: World Championship Poker
review | 01/15/05 | George Holomshek
There's nothing quite like the thrill of a good hand in a high-stakes game, or the feel of losing it all to some card-shark down the street. World Championship Poker gives you the chance to feel both while still on the go, letting players take on not only Poker games, but Blackjack, Slots, and more. If you're looking for a simple diversion that you can carry around with you, this might be the way to go.
